How does the SCA Flavor Wheel work?
The Specialty Coffee Association published its reference Flavor Wheel in 2016: 9 primary categories (Fruity, Floral, Sour, Green, Other, Roasted, Spices, Nutty/Cocoa, Sweet), each broken into precise subcategories. It is the universal vocabulary of Q Graders and specialty roasters worldwide.
How to taste: start with dry fragrance (freshly ground), then wet aroma (hot water steam), finally retronasal olfaction after swallowing, that is where complex aromas reveal themselves. Choose the notes that match your preferences; the algorithm scores them against 55 origin × process × roast profiles instantly.
