SL34 (variety, Kenya)
SL34 is a Kenyan Arabica variety selected by Scott Agricultural Laboratories in the 1930s from French Mission Bourbon material. It is genetically distinct from SL28 and grown mainly at lower altitudes and in wetter microclimates. Cup profile: bright but slightly less intense than SL28, with caramel, plum, and phosphoric acidity. SL34 is the second most important variety in the Kenyan specialty sector after SL28. Modern alternatives Ruiru 11 and Batian offer rust resistance but lower cup scores.
